oil pump pickup to pump connection..
oil pump pickup to pump connection..
I tried brazing the pickup with the brass rods w/flux and it looks alright and appears to be in tight, but I've been told that I should have gotten it mig'd, and then I've seen articles where the mig weld it and still put a bracket on it so It'll never fall off.
What would you guys say my course of action should be? and could the muffler shop weld it good enough?

The best way to retain the pickup tube would be to fit it correctly, then TIG weld it in place. Lacking a TIG, you could MIG it if the current were limited to prevent burn through. Lacking that, Brazing is better than nothing. I brazed pickup tubes in place for a few years without any known failures. It's better than the factory friction fit method.

Yes, haveing it actually welded is the best method, but like Vader mentioned, be carefull. Burn-through is the obvious problem, but another problem not so obvious is overheating the pressure releif spring. This will cause either low oil pressure or to much oil pressure. when I install one, I do one quick "tack", just enough to connect them and thats it.

Thanks guys. I didn't even think of just tacking it. I was aware of the heat problem with welding, and having it apart along with the spring removed. The brazing was shady for myself. I used oxygen and map gas to get it hot enough but it took forever to melt the brass rods, and I'm not sure if the beads are going to hold solid to the pump housing. I think I'll use my bosses mig and just tack it for extra comfort.
I don't have to worry about the connection sucking air right? it's pressed so it should already be sealed..
