Stroked?

What does it mean to stroke an engine ? is it similar to boaring ? or is it the reverse ? Does it give lots of power, sorry for the really n00b question

means to increase the length of stroke over stock destroking would be to reduce the stroke length.

It gives a good HP increase but really shines in the Torque department...

uh-oh here goes a big discussion again...
but you can get more HP out of destroking too, just have to turn it to higher RPM's which it is capable safely with a shorter stroke...

also maybe i missunderstood the question but, the crank shaft has a specific length for its stroke (3.48" on a 305/350... 3.75" on a 400) and the bore is the diameter of the bore (i forget the 305 bore, but 350 = 4.00" and 400 = 4.125") you can only bore a motor a little bit, and therefore does not increase cubic inches very much, stroking it does however, but the longer stroke puts more stress on the engine and can not be turned to as high of rpms... a 383/400 is a great street motor though
