weird options on a 1984 15th anniversary T/A

* My build sheet says "factory subwoofers". Where are they located?

* on the driver's side of the dash there is a little sensor sticking out that has a suction cup on it. What the hell is this for? It has "AC" on it so I think it's factory (AC Delco)

* On the dash there are three sets of buttons. A single button that opens the hatch, a on/off set of buttons that work the defroster, and another on/off set that I can't figure it out. It has a picture of a speaker I think, sort looks like a cross between a speaker and the hibeam indicator. It isn't foglights, I know that. What is this? I really want to know

BTW, I have 3.73, POSI, the little pull over thing in the hatch, the little hatch cover underneath the pull over for t-top storage like 4th gens, etc... all options

thanks!

The third button you speak of is the button for the woofers. If you remove the plastic interior panel that goes over the sail panel on each side there should be a subwoofer hidden there.

As for the suction cup thingy I've never head of it. Hopefully someone can help you figure that out because it makes me very curious.

Hi I have the same options in My 1984 TRANS AM. The speakers are in the sail panel, They are mounted below a 4x6 it has the 6 speaker system, Kinda rare for the year since it had to be special orederd i think. The button on the dash I believe is to turn on/off the subs, btw I think they are really just. mid range speakers. Even though they call them subs. When I went around looking for new ones. all they carry in that size are full range and mid range, no subs.Kevin

SWEET!

btw... if I had to venture a guess... that suction cup thingie looks like an old induction coupler...

On the C5 vettes they have a system that increases the volume to match your speed... it might POSSIBLY be something like that... perhaps aftermarket... just because it SAYS "AC" doesn't mean it's definitely AC Delco. I'm going to replace the instrument cluster so I'll trace this sensor when I take apart the dash.

Can one of you post pics of where the "subs" are? I'd much rather put some in the dash under the 4x6's since I don't want to harm the auto hatch release and don't really need anything bigger than one or two 10's anyway. Thanks a lot.

Yeah, it is kind of rare but so is a 15th anniv and most came loaded. I replaced mine with a 3-way polk 6 x 9's and I think they're better than the stock system. There's always been something about the push a button and get better sound thing. Very unnessicary but cool for the first 30 minutes.

aaahhhh......the sub switch!!!! when I first got my '84TA, I pressed that button and the toshiba tape player it came with released it's factory installed smoke!! someone must have wired it wrong. I threw out the gay plastic enclosures,I laughed at the 3" "subs",I never got to hear it,but it looked pretty cheap. now I wish I kept them. I would like to make the switch functional when I install my subs......some nieghborhoods you just don't need your subs,if you know what I mean.
