Problems with GM's fuel gauges

Newspaper article
While this may not be thirdgen specific, it could affect our thirdgens and pose a potential safety hazard. It's something we all should be aware of.

I guess no one pays attention to their trip meters anymore.

I've been through the fuel gauge fiasco as well. I changed out the sending unit in the tank with the theory that the sending unit is usually the culprit. After changing that, it still did the same thing. I decided to fix my broken trip meter so I could keep track of my mileage easier between fill ups. While I was at it, I had an extra fuel gauge from another cluster and swapped it in. Whaddya know, it works pefectly with the different fuel gauge in it! If I ever end up with the same problem again, I'll definitely try changing the gauge before the sending unit. The only thing that made me not feel so bad about the hassle of changing out the sending unit was that I was changing rear ends at the time, so it wasn't that much more of a hassle to drop the fuel tank at the time.
