Car overheats

I start it up and it drove fine and about halfway to school I looked at my tempature gauge and it was point at the sky...about were the 215-250 would be. So I made it to school and I was watching it the whole way and it would flicker down a little when it revved it but wouldn't come down at all. I just replaced the thermostat so that should be good unless I just fried it or got a bad one. My air dam looks like its in good shape and all the hoses and fluid level cheched out in my two minute look over.
Whats the deal?

if its at 215 (probably a typo) then its pretty normal
if tis at 245-250 then...
did you get all the air out after you changed the t-stat?
