To sonic test or not?
I bought a rebuilt stock short block a couple years ago (at least) that I never got around to using. I decided this year that I'd upgrade that block and put it into service. I had it Zero decked and I might have the crank balanced too. It's +.060 and I'm wondering if I should have the block sonic tested while it's apart.
I don't know if it has been tested and I can't find out cause the shop where it was built has been bought out.
Thanks for your opinions.

4inch bore block? If so, I'd only be concerned if I was building a high compression, high winding, high HP engine....then you *may* have some cooling issues...for most street builds it's probably not a concern.
Then again, it seems as if the block is already apart (since you had it decked), and testing it shouldn't be too expensive to give you piece of mind...but I still think it's dollars wasted for the average guy.

It's gonna be a pretty Lo-Po, workhorse type motor. A back up 350 in case I have to take one of my good engines out of my car or truck. Bout 9.2:1 CR.
Anyone ever seen a .060 over 350 go south because of cyl wall thickness (or thinness) issues?
Thx
