Cast or Forged Center Link
Cast or Forged Center Link
Hi,
I went to the parts stors to check out some center links. I looked at a "TreadSaver" , supposedly the generic form of Moog, made in the U.S.A. on the box. which had an edge going down the length of it. Then I checked out a Perfect Circle, which did not have an edge ( it was just round).
The TreadSaver looked heavier than the Perfect Circle.
I remember someone talking about cast vs forged suspension parts.
Is the center link with the edge cast, maybe ? And would that make it any better?
Thanks

A forging is stronger than a casting exactly because the flow lines from the forging operation are designed specifically to handle the stresses.
It is possible/likely that the piece with the split line is actually a forging. The line is formed as the top and bottom dies close together.

i don't think you'll find any front end parts that are cast. a forging has a wide flat parting line and a casting would have a narrow nearly to a point sharp parting line. there is also investment castings to consider but i don't think you'll find them on a front end and powdered metal that might be used.
