Does anyone have an MSD Pro-Billet distributor with mechanical and vacuum advance?
I want to get this distributor from summit but I was wondering if it would be any better than my current HEI. I am using a recurved stock 70's HEI with aftermarket coil and MSD 6A box. Thecurve isn't exactly where I want it and I have tried alot of different springs and weights and it's close but I want to talor it exactly and I want to know good it works.
I assume you are talking about the coil in cap "Ready to Run" HEI? Other than being higher quality new components, it won't help you. MSD's distributors are factory set with the weakest curves available. You will still have to curve it to your engine. I know several guys running this distributor without any problems in years. I'd like one, but I can't justify the price

You don't need a ready to run HEI, since you have a 6A. See the 6A replaces all the crap inside the distributor, to the point that all you need is a mag pickup.
MSD PN 8361 (http://www.msdignition.com) is what you want. This unit plug right into you 6A box, and that's it. The best part is it's only about 180-190 bucks, and has a smaller points style cap.
If you already have HEI plug wires, you can order a HEI cap to fit your wires.
Also the 8361 and most pro-billet's can be easily recurved with springs & stop bushings.(It's part of the design, and takes only a few minutes)
You'll also need an external coil, like a blaster-2 for 25-30 bucks. btw: this is why it's much smaller.

I run a Pro-Billet, MSD 6AL and Blaster 2 coil ...I'm completely happy with it. It really made a world of difference in the way my car ran. No matter what modifications I did to my old HEI I could never get it to advance fast enough and I had trouble keeping my plugs clean driving around town. With the MSD its dead on and my plugs keep clean. Car runs harder, idles better, and even starts easier.
