Daily Driver

I've been have a recurring problem with my 90 cavalier. Sometimes if I have run on the interstate for about 10 miles and I get off at an offramp, it will die at the end.

It's beening doing this for about the past year. It just like if you don't push in the clutch pedal on a manual when stopping, but my car is an automatic.

Any ideas?

Could be the lock-up converter switch sticking.

It will be JUST like what you said, coming to a stop in a clutch car without pushing in the cluch (bucking, stalls, etc.)

Usually won't do it around town.

Do you know for sure if it is a lockup converter, or are you just guessing? I don't know which it is. I thought about that being the problem too, but I wasn't sure if it had a lockup. Where would the switch be, in the tranny or outside?

...or the TCC relay sticking. Or possibly (but not likely) the TCC itself sticking in the engaged position.

The '90 Cav should have a TCC, fer-shoor!

What Vader said..

The solenoid is usually located inside the side cover of the trans. (look through the drivers side front wheel well.)
Some cars require the front cradle to be dropped/lowered to get the cover out.

Check it for codes, sometimes (depends on available data stream) it will throw a lockup code.

With a scanner on it you should be able to drive it and watch what the lock up solenoid is doing.
