strange problem
strange problem
when I coast down hill without touching gas pedal I get the SES light and it stays on untill engine is shut off. The code that comes on is 2-4 which is the vss circuit. I have replaced speed sensor and checked all the wiring to no avail. I was also told by a mechanic I know that sometimes that code has to do with the TPS which I have checked and at idol is .58volts and 4.75 at full throttle with no "dead spots" inbetween so I dont think that is the problem. It only seems to happen durind downhill coasting. If anyone has any insights please let me know...thanks
Custman,
It's possible that you are intermittently losing the VSS signal due to wear in the transmission tailshaft and/or a loose gear on the VSS. If the plastic driven gear on the VSS is not engaging the cut gear on the tailshaft correctly, it may be partially disengaging due to movement of the plastic gear on the VSS (more likely) or slight movement of the tailshaft in the housing (less likely).
My decoder says nothing about the TPS being invloved in a code '24'.
HINT: The VSS is ignored when the transmission is in NEUTRAL or PARK. Have you tried coasting down a hill in NEUTRAL? If the safety switch is working correctly, the light should not come on.
