lt4 hot cam in old block?

does anyone know if a lt4 hot cam will fit in a pre 85 block?
Everything I have found talks about puting in in a newer block.
thanks for your help.

Did you get this cam for free or as a gift. You can get a pre 86 (non hydrualic roller) cam with the same specs for less money than the hot cam costs.

Yes, BUT.....

You'll need to use a roller cam timing chain set. You'll also have to use the factory roller cam retaining plate between the cam gear and block with the ears machined off (basically it becomes a "spacer" at that point) and then use a thrust button setup on the nose of the cam to keep the cam from "walking" forward when running- similar to an aftermarket roller cam conversion.

Also, the factory roller lifters will be too tall for the earlier non-roller cam block so you will have to go aftermarket for the roller lifters and their retention method (can't just bolt in a factory spider/dogbones, etc.)

In short- a huge PITA.
