Removing the MAT for plenum cleaning

How does the MAT come out? The big bolt screws out, or does the plastic piece come out? Also, what's the best way to clean the build up off the inside of the plenum walls? Using half a can of Gunk, soaking in a solution (if so, what kind). Thanks

Friend told me how to get the MAT out. Now what's the best way to clean the gunk from inside the plenum best for porting. Or should I just use some degreaser, then grind the obstructions down?

id leave the mat in and just relocate an lt1 mat sensor to a cooler spot. check out this site:

Red,

Don't be too concerned about getting all the varnish and dirt out of the plenum - just start grinding/milling the obstructions out of there.

If you want the long story, search the archives for the topic. Suffice it to say, if you clean it all out you'll gain nothing, and it will all be back in a few thousand miles.

Evertime I look in my plenum it looks as clean as when I ported it. I have driven at least 3000 miles since then too.

Not trying to be a jerk, I just noticed that none of that stuff was building back up in my plenum and thought it was pretty weird.

I might have noticed a difference after I ported my plenum, but when I put it back on the car, it was 6 months after I took it off, so I have no clue.. and I think it really only makes a big difference on a 350.

I am starting to doubt the value of small bolt on modifacations. I have a conical K&N, an air-foil, ported plenum/matched runners and gaskets, afpr, flowmaster single out cat-back and it doesn't really feel any faster. Maybe I should go to the track to find out.. anyone in San Diego wanna teach me how to drag race?

I think the next "bolt-on" I am gonna try will be a complete long-block out of a TPI 'vette... with that I think I will "feel"
faster.
