How Do I Disconnecting The Speedo/odometer In My 91 Rs
I have taken a cluster out of an 86 z28, it was cable driven so i disconnected the speedo cable. I was told that my 91 rs has an electrical speedo and was wondering how to disconnect the speedo and odometer and keep everything else functioning properly?

The only reason I want to is because i want to make sure that i put less than 5,000 miles on a year so i will not have to go through emissions. I have no plans on selling this car. and no intentions of trying to pawn it off as a low milage car or anything, it already has 130k miles on it.

pull the plug off of the sending unit on the side of the tranny and tie it up somewhere so it doesnt get ripped off while dangling under the car

jack up your car, get it up on jack stands.
from under the driver side, at the tailshaft of the transmission (just to the front of the driveshaft) you should see a sensor plugged in to the SIDE of the transmission.
theres a picture here that should give you an idea.

unplug that connector, and use a cable tie to keep tie it up out of the way.
and your done.
im not sure about 90+ dashs, but the 89 and prior, all gauges other than the speedo, didn't have any wiring, they have a connector built into the dash, and there are metal contacts on the cluster, so there is nothing to unplug. and the speedo is hooked up with a mechanical cable.
so i would imagine the 90+ the whole cluster would just snap in.
