how much for machine work?
I want to have some heads assembled by a machine shop along with some machining -- here is list.
Hot tank head.
mill head gasket surface to clean up.
3 angle valve job.
shape valve guides for new valve seals.
machine spring pockets for bigger springs and no rotators.
pull pressed in studs and install threaded studs.
I can lap and install the valves and springs although they would probably have to install at least one set to get the spring pocket depths right.
How much should all this cost?

they don't need a valve to cut the spring seats. you ought to call shops in your area, prices change a lot from place to place. for me it cost 20 dollars to clean, 30 to surface, 2 dollar a seat for larger springs, 2 or 3 dollars ro cut guides for differant seals. thik they charge around 60 to mill guides. studs run in the 150-200 range not sure on 3 angle seats. i do as much as i can my self and try to save a few dollars. studs aren't hard to do nor are machining the guide height.

200 to tap the stud bosses? wow -- I have the studs is it really going to take 4 hours to tap them all?
will they just mill the intake spring pockets down even with the exhaust ones or would they take less and then shim up the exhaust springs?

they have to pull the old studs and mill the bosses, little mroe to it than just tapping a couple of holes. i'd guess it takes me 6 hours to get a set of screw in studs installed, but i know i'm not all that fast.
