Alright, I'm just getting curious, and thought I'd ask you guys what you thought I might be looking at for power (hp and torque) out of this engine set-up:

newly rebuilt 350 .060 over
stock dished pistons, rods w/ arp bolts, and stock polished crank
305 #416 heads with crane springs
summit 1103 cam 214/224 @.50 .442/.465 112lsa
edelbrock performer intake
gm HEI ignition
long tube headers with 2.5"(should I go 3"?) dual pipes no mufflers
holley 1850 600 cfm carb

Thanks for any opinions ya can give me

I say 320 HP at 5500 and about 375 Tq at 3800. Just my opinion

Desktop Dyno says 260hp @ 4500 and 350lb/ft at 3000rpm

Here are my opinions:

This could be a nice stock street cruiser, but not a drag motor. With that in mind I would put a mufflers on it. It will be obnoxious to drive on the street and it will most likely get you a ticket too. With this mild of a motor the HP a muffler robs will not be noticable. Turbo mufflers are $20

I would buy some .015 head gaskets to raise your compression a bit more.

3" is overkill, 2.5" would be a little too much, and 2 1/4" would give you the most clearance and you wouldnt lose any real HP at this level. Assuming your doing duals off of the longtubes....

I would choose a smaller cam too, 224 is a lot of duration for a stock motor! The motor isnt going to be seeing high rpms so a smaller cam will offer better torque through your powerband(idle-4500). Torque is what you want. That seat of the pants feel when you mash the pedal. Something in the 208-216 range

Also another cheap way to get that pseudo HP is by changing gears. Dont know what you have now, but swapping form a 2.73 to a 3.42 "feels" like you gained 50hp!! But your th350 limits you there, eventually you should find a 700r4 and install it. then sell the th350 and buy a set of gears.

Edit: keep the cam you have choosen if you want a rougher idle, you just have to sacrafice some usable torque for it

I'd give it 275hp max, probably less... Crappy heads without a whole lot of porting work, and then a crappy combustion chamber design regardless.... I'd put a muffler on it too, too *******...

This car will be a track only car. Even though it won't be the best drag motor it is just for me to compete in bracket high school class at the local 1/8 mile against cars like stock cavaliers ect.

All creature comforts from the car are gone in the name of weight reduction. I may have to put mufflers on to race in the high school class, depends on how picky they get.

Most likely it will be trailered so I don't have to pay the insurance. I already get raped on the 95's v6 insurance.

Then ditch those dished pistons and buy some cheap flattops. Cast piston can be had for $16.

The motor is already done, too late for that.
