Flat tappet in a roller block

My buddy just bought a 350 roller block and a set of heads at a swap meet. We want to build the engine but are on a tight budget. We wanted to now if a flat tappet cam and lifters will work in the engine because they are cheaper. We know that roller cams are better but we just don't have the money for a cam and lifter.

It will. You will need flat tappet pushrods as well.

I know your on a budget but it's always sad to see a roller block used with a flat cam. However it will run for now untill you save some cash then put a roller like the hot cam in or an LT1 cam.

Also note you'll need timing chain designed for non-roller motors.

timing chain, pushrods, lifter and cam....

if he has good stock rollers, he can save money by reusing the stock lifters and pushrods, and spending $50 on a used LT1 cam....
