Noisy Doors!

Both my driver and passenger doors have begun to rattle. The driver door is much worse though. I am going to take them apart and see if I can locate the rattle. I thought I would ask if anyone on here has ever encountered this problem and what actions they took to take care of it. Thanks for your help!

Matt

While you'll want to get a good look at everything, pay particular attention to the window regulator, window guides, lock and latch mechanism linkage rods, and lower window seals.

The noise really sounds like it is more in the back center of the door, near where the latch mechanism sits. If it is the latch mechanism, the easiest thing it could be is that it has simply worked itself loose from the door, the more difficult thing woud be that it is something internal to the mechanism. Is the latch rebuildable?

The latch mechanism is made mostly of stampings that are spot welded and/or cold riveted together, and are therefore not very service-friendly. While a determined repair person can repair almost anything, some of the methods required may be extraordinary.

Chances are you either have a window regulator arm or window guide channel rattling away inside the door, and a little adjustment, tightening, or springing into position, coupled with a thorough cleaning and relubricating can make a big difference. You'll never know until you remove the inner door panel and look.
