Who makes a nosiey gear drive for my car?

Pete Jackson only makes a quiet one for roller cam SBCs, and I WANT that blower whine, so who sells one, and what will it cost?

Nobody that I know of. Its because of the roller cam, the cam gear itself is different. As for whine... this is a PJ 'quiet' drive:

I wonder why they advise against it. Because of the roller cam or the modern knock modual that usally goes along with roller cam motors?

I guess I should rephrase..

They were probably concerned about the knock sensor, so didnt offer one. But what I meant to say was that apparently due to having to manufacture a different part, the rest of the aftermarket decided not to make one for the 87-up. Doesnt mean you cant use one, you could use a cam button and run a non step nose cam. My information is about 2 years old so its possible that someone else joined the club and makes one for the later engines, but I am not aware of any.

im just taking guesses, but i dont think the knock sensor would get along with a noisy gear drive. just my opinion

I have an '86 Trans Am with TPI and I've checked into it! You CAN NOT use a noisy gear drive because of the knock sensor! The knock sensor will mistake the gear drive noise for detonation! That's just not good!! The only way to do it would be to burn your own chip and desensitize the knock sensor! Just remember, if you desensitize the knock sensor it may not pick up REAL detonation and that can really damage your engine!

9 bolt Borg Warner Rear
Completely Stock
Soon to upgrade to a 383 stroker w/TPI, pocket ported 64CC heads, ported intake, comp cam, TPI air foil, Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, possibly bigger injectors!
Current project: Keeping my car running until I get the money for the above mentioned project! :-)

I dont trust anyone's myths about the knock sensor and the gear drives. The knock sensors are so sensitive that they have a different one for a 305 and a 350. If the gear drive actually does set off a knock sensor, does it resonate at the 305 frequency or the 350 frequency? I really think it comes down to installer error, there is something that could set off the knock sensor from a gear drive, and its not whine. I heard all the stories about not running a gear drive with a knock sensor and how it was going to pick up false knock and everything, until my best friend who has forgotten more about TPI than any of us will ever know told me he was running a noisy drive on his 85, and didnt have any problems with it. So, I picked up the quiet drive and put it on there per the instructions and have checked it with 3 scanners and there isnt any false knock going on at any time. I am not sure about the noisy drive itself because I have not tried it and there are a couple people here who used it and had problems. I dont know of a single person running the quiet drive with problems.

I guess the moral of this is, dont take the rumors as truth. A million people can tell you it wont work from the myths that float around, but I would suggest taking it from the mouth of a person who tried it for themselves and it didnt work. Even if you call Pete Jackson they will tell you the quiet drive will set off the knock sensor, and I know thats not true. Take the 'truth' with a grain of salt on this one...
