Help me pick a good package(long)
Ok, I have an 89 Formula with an L03. Current mods in my sig and 83K on her. I love my car, but she needs a little more power. My problems are I'm a college student and it is my daily driver, so down time is not good. I need good driveability and economy, but as much power as I can safely get without a great compromise to those. Here are my questions.
1. I was thinking about a new cam, looking at either the LT-1 cam or the comp cams 08-501-8". It is alot of work to put one of these in, so how much power will I get out of say just these. I want power in the 1000-5000 range, and I must say that I like torque over horsepower, but it's all good. Which would be better for what I'm going to do?
2. I was thinking about swaping out my heads to tpi 305 heads and porting them myself. That can all be done before the swap so less down time. Is this worth my money and time? How much Power will I get say out of just these?
3. "Ultimate TBI" mods and ported manifold. I'm only trying to feed the engine to about 5000, so that should be enough right?
4. Some TPI exaust manifolds or some really cheap headers. I would like the engine to still look stock, that is why I'm choosing some of these parts, and i just simply can afford $350 for headers.
Before I do all that I will have my 3.42 posi installed. So what do you guys think. Is this a good setup, or am I way off. I know you have to spend money to make power, but I thought that with this I could do pretty well and still have the things that I need. How much power do you guys think that this package will make. Or what would you do if you had say $750. Thanks in advance.

if i had $750, i would do a new cam...and while that was off, i'd change the intake. I dont know much about TBI intakes, and i may be wrong, but i think you can use a carb intake liek an edelbrock performer...someone please confirm or deny this. with your $$, you really cant get heads...but you can do headers. you figure $200 for cam, timing chain, pushrods...if you have roller lifters you can reuse them if they're in good shape, and hydraulic lifters are cheap. about $200 for the intake and gasket set, that leaves you with $350 for headers...you'll feel a difference.

ok i just found this on the edelbrock website...it's a tbi intake (pn 3704) but you can only use it with small bore throttle bodies. i'd ask around to see what people think about this intake. check out www.edelbrock.com and click on intakes to check it out. $208 from summit...that cam coems out to $239 ( i guess it's roller...) so you might not have the $$ for for headers...(DO NOT get summit headers...only buy a hader and y-pipe setup made for your car)so....maybe someone else has further suggestions?????
