Big problem! No huge problem!

Ok I'm in the middle of a cam swap. Today I pulled the Harmonic balancer off. So I take the old cam out put the new one in, also I'm installing a true roller timing chain. So I pull off the old crank sprocket and go to install the new one when I find the bolt hole in the crank is damaged!! I mean the bolt wouldnt even start. Does anyone have any addvice about taping the hole out? Or is there anyother way? I hate to beg but I got this far with inciden, help me please.

i'm guessing you've never tapped a hole? you shouldn't have to really cut new threads, just clean up the ones you have. i'll guess you didn't use anything to protect the threads when you had a puller on the damper. buy a thread chasing tap instead of thread cutting. use something like wd-40 or tap oil. make sure you start out square and don't get the hole or threads crocked. good luck

Had the same thing happen to me. Had to start a tap and then was able to thread in the bolt. Freaked me out for a second too, but all is well
