Car won't start... chip on the key? N/P switch? I'm stuck..

Ok, lately mt car has been having problems starting, usually I push forwards on the shifter and it will start, telling me I need to get a new nuetral saftey switch.

Now it is stuck in my driveway and the pushing won't work. I removed the cover and jumped the two thick wires with a paperclip but it still won't start, but my rear power hatch WILL open, and thats only suppose to happen when in park, so I know that it knows it is in park... so...

Now if I jump two of the other connections, the car will start to crank over and over but will not run... and this is with the key in the RUN position, not the start position.

When I put my key in, the Check Engine Soon light is on, along with the Security light. When I turn to the start position, the Radio Light goes out, the coolant gauge shoots up and the Brake light turns on, along with the CES and Security light staying on.

Whats wrong? Do you need a couple of jumps on the Nuetral Safety switch to get it to start, or is it not letting it run due to a security issue?

Also, the steering colum on my car seems to have been switched, as there are a bunch of spliced under the dash. They all look intact, and my car has started hundreds of times before. This happened once before but I got it to run... HELP!!!

Ok, well, my friend decided to lick the chip on the key, (he's queer like that) buy holy **** it worked! I guess my next question is, is there any way to disable this security issue? I'd image there isn't as that would ruin its whole purpose... thanx...

273,

You've given a pretty good description of the problem and your afforts, but you didn't state what year/model you have. The wiring is slightly different across a few years, so there might be a bit of difference.

Ohh man, my bad.. sorry about that. It's an 1989 IROC Camaro with a 5.7 liter engine, 700-R4... I just adjusted the Neutral Safety switch and now it starts without me needing to push on it... laterz..
