Will a 15 inch spare work with 16 inch wheels?

I've got an 82 TA with the stock spare. I was wondering if I put 16 inch wheels(I think Formula wheels) will the spare be tall enough to work?

Since the outer diameter of the 15" tires is about the same as the 16" ones, it won't make much difference.

Just don't drive it very far; like, to the nearest possible place to fix or replace the bad tire, and not one block further.

Especially if it's a posi, you'll screw up the clutch pack.

It is a posi. Would it be a better idea to buy a 16 inch spare and use it when I have the 15 inch wheels on?

Or if the rear tire is flat swap it so the oddball is on the front, it may take an extra jackstand.

hey I just thought of this. If a rear tire is blown, I should get the spare out and put it on a front wheel. Then I jack up the rear and put the normal front tire on the rear. Perfect!

Yes, yes it is. I don't think I'll need a jackstand though. I'll just have to jack the car up twice.

Just remember.....

You can run the front wheels on the rear, but you can't run the rear wheels on the front. They get wedged up against the struts.

If you don't believe me, you can ask the dit ship at Sears.

I think thats for later year thirdgens with different offsets for the front and rear. The car now has 78 thousand miles, and I've been running with the rear wheels on the front for at least 1,000 miles. I got the car at 74,600, so I don't know if they have been rotated in the past. I have all of the slips for repairs that have been done to the car though, so I could find out. My tires are 235/60/15. I remember my dad had the same problem with his crosslace wheels when he took it to the shop. The front made a loud squeeking noise he said.

Stock 15" rims have the same offset front and rear.

Didn't you say you were going to 16" Formula wheels?

ALL the 16" wheels have different offsets.

there are some 15in spares that inflate to full size.Just like the 14in wheel spares posi equipped f-bodys came with.Ive got 1 of ea & they both are the same height when inflated.but then it requires that blue canister to inflate it.

Do I need to worry about that canister getting old?

I would assume a dealership could help out somehow.
