Do I still us my ECM?

This may sound like a stupid question I want to know incase I go back to a 700R4. I have removed all emissions and I have a non-lock up torque converter on the 350. Oh, Carb. too. If I switch Tranys soon does the ECM control Transmission lockup or anything else I am using. All gagues work.

Thx

The computer controlls lockup but vacuum kits are available for non-computer cars to lock up the converter. TCI has them, just need to run power and a manifold vac line down to it.

Are you positive? This conflicts with everything I understand about Torque converters. Unless they make a Trany that controls lockup via vacume.

There allready is a vacume line and I dont think my trany is lock-up compatible.

From the factory, the ECM controls the lock-up electronicly. Aftermarket kits, such as tci use an added on vacuum switch that controls the lock-up of the converter electronicly. With high vacuum(engine not under load), the vacuum switch turns on the lock-up converter. With low vacuum(engine under load), the vacuum switch unlocks the converter. The tranny is still locked/unlocked electronicly, the vacuum switch takes the place of the computer in determining when to lock/unlock the converter.
Most of the kits I've seen require modification of the internal wiring on the 700r4--it's easy to do and will allow lock-up in 4th gear only. The TCI vacuum switch is adjustable and the kit has provisions to set up a toggle switch to manually control the lock-up.

Moroso has a kit too, I think it's cheaper.

If I understand this right that means I can get rid of the computer and use this aftermarket lockup switch if I go back to a 700r4. Can anybody think of a reason that I shouldn't sell the ECM?
