Fuel Pump

Guys, how long does the fuel pump run after you shut down the engine? Mine runs, somewhere between 30 seconds to a minute. I havent noticed a fuel leak anywhere. Could the injectors be drooling into the manifold? The car has a problem running rich anyway? Somebody replaced the factory 350, with a ragged 305. It still uses the factory TPI, so I know the injectors are too big. Could that be part of it?

Mine didn't run at all after I turned the car off, both with the stock pump in and a replacement.

Thanks, I wonder could the pump be going bad. Just another thing I need to replace.

You may have either a bad relay, or the oil pressure sender that serves as the pump's cutoff switch (for safety reasons - so it doesn't continue to run after a wreck or something and start a fire). In either case it's not the pump's fault which is a good thing, those other parts are much less trouble to replace.

How do I check the oil pressure sender? Is it the same one that powers the gage? How much would a replacement cost? TIA.

The relay is about $12, the oil pressure sender is about $8. Easiest way to check it is to disconnect it while the car is doing its thing, and see if it stops. Same for the relay. Or just replace it, it's not very hard. The relay is really easy, it just unplugs and a new one plugs in.
