Dumb newbie question...waterpumps
Does my 92 305 rs camaro have a long or short shaft water pump? I' want to replace mine when I put my cam kit in(figure I might as well).I'm looking at the polished aluminum or just plain aluminum ones...any suggestions???Thanks

For all purposes everything is a LONG water pump. i believe it's 50s vettes that came with short pumps....everything and i mean everything else is long since then.

Water pump length is determined by the accessory bracket arrangement you're using. It doesn't go with the block, and does not care what sheet metal (or fiberglass) the block was wrapped in originally.
That said, they changed from the short to the long style WP in the various car lines except for the Vette between 67 and 69, as they changed each chassis over from ram's horn exhaust manifolds with the alt boss on the driver's side exh man (short pump system) to the system using accessory bolt holes in the heads with the alt on the pass side (long pump system). The Vette accessory arrangement didn't get changed until about 73 or so. All accessory systems will fit on all blocks from all years, 55-up.
As far as I can recall, all Camaros have always had the long pump, since the ram's horn manifolds are totally incompatible with the chassis, ever since it came out in 67.
