High Voltage on Initial Start Up??

I have an 86 Trans Am and when I start my car for the first time in the morning, it holds 15 volts!! Does anyone seem to have this same situation! I don't want to call it a problem because it doesn't cause any....I'm just wondering why it does this!

------------------
1986 Trans AM
305 TPI
4 Wheel Discs
9 bolt Borg Warner Rear
Completely Stock
Soon to upgrade to a 383 stroker w/TPI, Hedman Shorty Headers, pocket ported 64cc or 76cc heads(undecided), ported intake, comp cam, TPI air foil, Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, possibly bigger injectors!
Current project: Keeping my car running until I get the money for the above mentioned project! :-)

I have an 86 transam too. it is high when i first start it up in the morning but as i drive it goes down to around 13-13.5 it's been like that for 5 years. so i don't make a big deal about it. well actually i've been through 4 alternators too. but i have a lifetime warranty on mine so i just keep getting them free. it could because of my system too. anyways. don't worry about it.

It's all about thermo resistance.

Latley the temps have been in the teens, and my Vette puts out over 16+ volts when first starting in the morning, and then comes down to around 14.5... It's very normal to have anything between 13-15.5... yea my Vette is putting out some killer voltage in the morning, probably considered outside the norm - but I love it.
You also have to remember that your battery is less effient when cold, so having 15 volts to charge it is good.

Don't worry, most of your electronic are able to take 18 volts without damage.

after reading up on alternators in my service manual because i had to replace it, i think that the voltage regulator is affected by the temperature. it says that it will hold 13.5 volts...less in warm weather. so it may also mean that it bumps it up when its cold. having 15 volts should pose no problem as long as it comes down after the car warms up.
