Steering column / VSS ?

The person who had my car before me tried to turn on the bright lights by snatching the lever past the steering wheel. Thus the lever is broken on the inside of the column. What is the best way to fix this problem? I had a 1987 Trans Am and the VSS Buffer wa piggy backed to the ecm is it this way on the camaro as well. Reason is that my speedo is not working. Any help would be appreciated!!!!

If it were my car I would buy a steering
column for a car of the same year (but a
less popular model) and rebuild my column
with parts from the cheaper, donor column.
Otherwise, I would buy a good used column
of the correct model and install it. I have
seen the part and price list for fixing a
Camaro column after the car was stolen and
it was over $500.00.
