No Spark at Coil
No Spark at Coil
I'm not getting any spark from the coil. I did replace the electronic ignition module and the coil both, but still no spark. Any suggestions?

A lil more information:
Came home, parked car.
Went back outside to go to work ~1.5 hrs later
Car wouldn't start, but would just continuously turn over.
Thought it may just be low on gas, so I put some more gas in it from a gas can I had filled up.
Still turned over.
Checked for spark at the plugs.....none.
Pulled coil wire going to distributor, no spark.
Hooked a spare plug into that wire...checked again for spark...none.
Bought coil, installed, checked for spark, none.
Took cap/rotor off, pulled Ignition Controle Module
Bought new one (they couldnt' test the old one) and installed it.
Verified Distibutor was turning before I reinstalled cap/rotor
Reinstalled, checked for spark again...none
Had friend listen for injector ticking....he says he didnt' hear them.
So that's where I'm sitting now, I have checked the fuses and the fuel pump IS priming.

I had the exact same problem with mine one time. I came out one morning to start the car and it started up then died and then it wouldnt start back. The tach wasnt moving while i was cranking either so i thought something was burnt up. I checked for spark and i swapped coils and ignition modules, checked the fuel pressure, everything. I was getting ready to pull the distributor to replace the pickup and then i tried it again just to make sure. I held the gas pedal to the floor and cranked and it fired up but ran rough for a minute then it smoothed out. I guess it was flooded. You could smell the gas. Do these cars cut spark when flooded? It hasnt given me any trouble since.
2 questions...which wire is do I need to check to see if the coil is getting 12 volts.....
and how many bolts hold the distributor in? Basically I just pull it out and stab the new one in, correct?

yes check the pick-up coil but dont think that buying new parts make you in the green with how they function...
I bought a new coil for my s-10 and put it on, NOTHING.. and i was having the exact same problem as you... tampered with wires and everything in the distribuator, module, everyhting... i tested the coil myself and wouldn't you know, it was bad.... new coil they told me they knew for sure was good was in fact bad.. put a junkyard coil my brother had laying around in and bam...
i would suggest testing your new coil before you get outta hand like I did... my truck is still tore apart cause i was running down wires.

theres one bolt, 9/16th standard that holds a lil metal clip around the distribuator that holds it in place..
before you tear that distrib out, read my other post.

there should be two wires runnin into the distrib, one labled on the cap "battery" and the other is for your tach.. check your battery for 12 volts..
