Ready to fire new 383 Have a quick ?
Its a Roller cam 383 and was wondering. is it ok just to start up and let it run. i cant drive it since its 5* outside and 9 million feet of snow. But would it be ok to let it run ideling with a few revs while it sits in teh garage then in a month or so try to take it out to set the rings? or leave it till march and april to fire it up? Thanks

Roller cams don't need break in, only flat tappets.
Start it and check the timing, and temp, then let it fully warm up. No need to break in the cam.

i might be thinking about lifters cause i know you dont have to "charge" flat tappet lifters but rollers u do, but i dont think u have to break in a flat tappet cam, but u do a roller?
I may be wrong but oh well, happened before..
good luck with the fire-up

you might want to fire it and make sure you don't have any leaks and set the timing. run it for 30 minutes around 1500 rpm then change the oil and filter. i wouldn't run it any longer than that and i wouldn't run it without driving it.
