Eagle GS-C (opinions)
What do you think of the Goodyear Eagle GS-C? Not considering the price(if that's possible).
thanks,

I can't stand them...
My little brother (works at NTB) got me a set of IROC wheels that somebody traded in for aftermarket. He scrounged up 2 Michelin XGTs and 2 GS-Cs, put the XGTs on the front and the GS-Cs on the rear. It made the car was so loose it was hilarious or at least would have been if it wasn't mine. Every time I drove a twisty road I was sure I was going to loop it because the fronts had so much more traction than the rears.
I strongly recommend the Michelins, get the XGT "Pilot" series. Very good wet or dry traction, decent tread life, good ride, low noise.
Resist the temptation to buy tires based on price: you get what you pay for. I can't think of any one other bolt-on component that affects a car's overall performance and usefulness more than tires.

I'm gonna vote for my new rear tires, dunlop SP5000. This car had some old yoko S306s on it when i got it, and i could burn them up just nailing it from a 10-20 mph roll. If i touched the gas pedal during a turn i was sideways.
Since the new rubber i can barely powerbrake, and punching it from a stop it hooks completely. granted i'm driving a 2.73 geared automatic LB9, but nonetheless the huge gain in traction over the yokos was still impressive.
As for it's all weather capabilities, it has great wet traction. I can't really attest to it's hydroplane resistance as i haven't been on the highway in the rain yet. As for it's all season rating (yup, it's a Z rated All season tire), i successfully drove up a snow/ice covered hill driveway. And not just a inertia i hope i make it drive. I actually backed down the driveway and drove back up it, all while on a failry steep hill. If i wouldn't have done it i wouldn't believe it, even for a snow tire equipped f-body.
As for price, i paid 126 a tire for 255/50/16s at sears.

I think they are a pretty good tire. I dont like michelins, no one I know likes them either. If I had a pick of any tire, I would try for Pirelli or Goodyear Eagle F1s (and the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-d. But I think this is one of those personal preferences. Get a Z rated tire that you think looks mean. And you do get what you pay for.

I have a friend that has them on his SVT Contour. They grip really well but they have a lot of road noise and very very low tread life. He does very little hard driving and had to replace them after thirty thousand miles. Just my opinion and his.

I'm getting the GSC's. 245/45R16's are a discontinued size and my local Goodyear dealer has a set. A friend of mine works there, and I can get them for 62 bucks a tire. Hopefully they are better than the BFG comp TA VR's I have now--4/32 tread left and really slick.
