Dropping a 350 in w/ the tranny already in the car
It is being a pain because we can't get the passenger side motor mount lined up. We took off the exhaust manifolds and the distributor cap for clearance but the motor still isn't going far enough back to clear the motor mounts. Any comments on my situation. Would it be easier to pull the tranny (700r4) and bolt it up to the motor and then stab the whole thing in or what?

As long as the tranny is in the proper position you should be alright. Make sure the tranny is angled up slightly, so when you slide the engine in, the back of the engine is lower than the front. I did my ZZ4 with the tranny supported by some stands and the motor fell into place. I know you are fighting this but the motor should fall into place. Keep at it.

I just did this a few months ago... well sorta it was a 305 but anyways...
You have to have the trans up high enough to get the engine lined up and hooked up to it, then you sorta have to force it back as you let it down, and I had to wrestle around with it a bit before it dropped in all the way. Prying is a good idea too.

can you say long a$$ pry bar and a BFH? it isn't easy, you just have to pry and force it then all of a sudden it'll fall right in.

loosen the trans mount and pull the trans as far forward as it will go, and angle it up... its job is to be a PITA. But it will eventutally go together.

Large block of wood, like 18" of 2x12, under the pan.

Rob how the hell did you get TPI on a ZZ4 crate engine? The intake bolts will not line up!

you can do it with the high flow intake from edelbrock..
PN #3861 to work with after-market and early model heads,
PN #3860 if you have a factory tpi motor

Bingo! I first had my 92 stock intake machined for the different bolt angle. I then bought an Edelbrock which is machined for both angles.
