305
The car I'm getting has a TPI 305. Would it be better to slap some high performance components on the 305 or buy a 350?
I'm looking for 360-400 rear wheel horsepower but I don't have lots of money to spend. Is that even possible with a 305?

A 305 will cost twice as much as a 350 to try to get that kind of HP. If your on a low low buck budget (like me), look to beef up the 305, and be real expecting about 300hp max (low budget that is).

The 305 will never get the same results as a 350 with the same or similar mods. However, you've saved a ton of money by using the engine already in the car. I read an article where with just bolt ons, they took a 305, the weak 145 horsepower one (don't remember the number) and produced a very drivable 325 ponies. That's nothing to sneer at. If you get close to 400 ponies from a 305, it's going to be very rough to drive, and won't last too long.
Being that you're on a light budget, I'd imagine this will be a daily driver.........with that in mind, 400 is over kill. Shoot for 300 ponies, and beef up the suspension. That's what I'm doing anyhow.
BTW, the bolts ons were total cost of less than 2 grand.

The links are working, but you can copy and paste.
That's for the 325 hp LG4.

Well, I need lots of horsepower.
I have to beat this punk at my school who got a $36k LS1 Trans Am for his first car.
300HP + a 150HP nitrous shot should do it, shouldn't it?

if you have overdrive just slap a 4:11 posi in it and if you want to go with nirtous but be careful not to blow the engine that would put you pretty close i would think. A 350 would be the best way to go, but putting in a different cam would definately be a cheaper option.
