My alt. belts been squeeking. Its actually worse now that its brand new. It squeeks at mid rpms. (maybe over 1200-2500). I had tightened it myself and even had a friend try to tighten it. It feels pretty tight but is still squeeking. Its getting annoying. Help

BTW-I put quiet a bit of belt dressing on it too.

Im also wondering if 12-13 volts is good with a brand spanking new battery. I actually used to get a bit more (sometimes 15) with my old battery. Maybe my alt. is goin. It tested at around 14....

12.9 or so is all i've ever seen at the battery. my guess is you're reading the gauge, that's output from the alternator and should be around 15. is the belt tight or not? can you spin the pulley?

How old is the belt? With a old worn out belt it wont matter how much you tighten it, it'll still squeek. The only fix is to just change it.

I thought he mentioned a "brand new" belt.

It may be worthwhile to look at the sheave alignments.

No idea what sheave alignments are..LOL But the belt seemed tight. Maybe Ill take another go at tightening it another day. Average volts right now is about 12-13 from my gage. Its been starting up without too much trouble. little pumping of the gas while I turn the key, but nothing horrible. Im just really tired of that squeeking. Is there anything that will actually stay on the belt and not wair off that will make it not squeek. It got a little better with the spray but the noise came back.

how can a belt "seem" tight, is it tight or not? have you checked it to see if it's tight?

Ive pressed down on it and it seems tight enough. I dont know whether Ive gotta put all my effort into it or have someone hold it while I tighten it up or something but its still squeeking.
