I have a 1979 350 with a mechanical fuel pump and I need to know what fuel pump I should use to support close to 425hp...

 

A stock one would work fine at that low of a power level.

So would a Holley or a Carter one.

I'd suggest using a light-weight (hollow) push rod, such as from Moroso or Crane, to help out its capacity and longevity at higher RPMs.

 

would the stock pump work with a 125hp shot of NOS along with the 425hp n/a

I had one of those....on my old solid roller 355.

It's A LOT of fuel.

 

Oh yeah... to put it in perspective, a 130 GPH pump will completely drain your tank (15 gallons) in a little under 7 minutes.

I'm partial to the Carter pumps, personally.

 

130GPH = 492LPH.

I'm going to be putting a Walbro 255lph pump in my 305TPI just because I'm getting it cheap and I figure I might as well replace my fuel pump since my rear is going to be off anyways.

255lph = 63GPH or something like that. That'll still support a ton of power, even if I had a strong-running 350. My goal when I get my 350 together is to have a power output similar to yours actually..

 

Well I will use an adjustable regulator as well as a high flow pump. I just wanna be safe when using my nitrous shots.

 

With the 130gph Holley, you have no choice but to run an AFPR. I ran mine in conjunction with the Mallory 4309.

 

What is the suggested size pump then? Do you guys think 80GPH would handle my setup with the 125 shot? What PSI should I run as well? Someone name a trusted brand of fuel pump in the size I need please. I really need some help on this cause tuesday I am ordering all my fuel system and nitrous system.

 

Don't know about models or anything, but Holley and Walbro make high-quality pumps I know.

 

Just so its known, a motor using a 130GPH pump will not use fuel any faster than a 110GPH (or any other size for that matter).

I was using a carter 120 gph pump. It worked good. I think as long as you get a good name pump that flows enough fuel you will be fine.
