Speedo problems/ Don't need any tickets / Help!!

I was driving my car yesterday and the speedo went crazy. First it didn't work and then it started to work but was about about 25 mph off. From a dead stop stop the speedo kicks in after about a minute and a half. I will be doing about 30 mph and it starts to work and starts from zero so it is really off. It seems to have a mind of it's own. I just bought the car about a week ago.
It is a 92 RS 305TBI and a 5 speed. Also it is all original.
Please Help
Jody

You have an electric speedo, so it could be a wiring problem, or a bad VSS(vehicle speed sensor).

This is happening to my Trans Am. I found the cheapest way to get by this is to keep pace with traffic, but if you're all alone and go by a cop, pray...Or duck onto a side road

Well, if a cable driven speedo can do it too, then could it be the speedo gears in the tranny messed up?

It could be because either the VSS sender which is in the tranny is bad or the driven or drive gears are stripped or slipping off...

I meant that jody's could have stripped gears in the tranny. Since a cable driven speedo can have the same trouble, that is about the only thing they share in common.

Entirely possibly. The T5 electronic sender bolts in place in the same spot and even uses a plastic gear, which could strip. A few teeth missing would cause that kind of behavior.
