Cabin air filters

Would there be one on a 91 Z28?

I have a TERRIBLE problem with dirt and filth coming out of the vents, even on a low setting.

Probably due to living in Lubbock (HIGHLY dirty/windy town) and that its an old car.

What is the best way to clean the air ducts? Just turn it on and let it all blow out?

One day later, it it all crammed packed with dirt once again.

There's no cabin air filters.. You could try some of that spray a/c duct cleaning stuff that they sell by the refrigerant stuff at the parts store.. You basically spray it into the fresh air intake and turn your vent on high.... Dunno how well it actually works to clean it, but it does help to get rid of a musty smell (that is what it is made to address)...

When I changed my heater core several years ago I wanted to clean the entire HVAC system out. Once the HVAC box was opened for heater core service, I blew out the vents with compressed air. I should have known better to lay some plastic down over the interior as dust, dirt, and all sorts of debris went flying all over my interior

can a cabin filter be installed on a 91-92 camaro or firebird?

i suppose it depends on the dimensions of the filter and where it would go
would this filter cause serious reduce air pressure?
i know 'most' of us really dont want to be breathing burnt oil, exhaust, and diesel fumes =/

A pollen filter will not filter out any gases or fumes. The average pollen filter is only capable of removing particles 10 microns and larger, while a few claim 5 and larger. Gas molecules are much smaller

Marc, when I pulled out my radio console and unscrewed the heater vent from the bottom of the dash, I even found an unlit cigarette with lipstick on it, a pen cap, and some change! Amazing what falls in there...

wow, i'm a biology and chemistry student and i really should have known that, i suppose some filtration would indeed help, massive dust, etc

is it still possible? perhaps a filter similiar to what we use in our furnasses?

Yeah, of course its possible. It all depends on how much work you want to put in. I've looked into putting one in, and decided its really not worth the hassle. In a dustier climate it may be. Anyhow, you would want to install the filter before the blower motor. You could pull out the motor, and cut out a slot in the case (engine side) and slide in an OEM filter that would fit. They make them in several sizes, so a quick junkyard search should help determine what size filter and hole you will need.
