Fuel Pump Replacement (arrrgh)

Ok, I need some help. Me and my frined are replacing my fuel pump on my car. And boy its a pain. First we had to cut the exhaust off with a sawzall. Now that the exaust is off, all the lines. Is there any thing else that needs to be removed when replacing it. I think there maybe one more line to remove. We cut three hoses, and now there is another hose that is attached. I am not sure about that one, it is bigger than the rest of them. But anyways, is there any tips for removing the gas tank. Its a b1tch.

i'm pretty sure when you replace the fuel pump you don't have to cut anything.

Jason, the more room you can get between the tank and the axel the easyier it is to manuver the tank out but be careful not to streach the brake lines and DON'T CUT THEM!
i hope you planed on a new exhaust system or cat back and like ede (the man) said nothing
needed to be cut

I don't think anyone was suggesting that the exhaust didn't need to be cut. It is all of the other lines that you talked about cutting that didn't need to be cut.

I replaced the fuel pump in mine last year, I didn't have to cut anything off, I first jacked up the axle as high as I could, and put axle stands under, disconect the shocks, then jack up the body to the limit the brake lines would go. At this height the springs could be moved out of the way, and the exhaust system could be rotated right out of the way, this alowed me to tilt the whole fuel tank down to work on it. If you plan on removing the tank, I found you would have to vertially remove the whole rear axle. It did't seem to want to come out any other way. But the whole process didn't take long.

I saw a mechanic in a shop lower the rear axle down to make room for the gas tank to come down not all the way out but enough to reach the pump. Looked like a good idea.

I assume you don't have it on a lift so make sure the car is jacked up as high as possible and the axle is dropped down as far as possible without kinking the brake lines. The springs should be about ready to fall out at this point. This will give you the most room to move the tank around. You do have the wheels, shocks, sway bar, and panhard rod disconnected/removed right?

Be careful around the filler neck tube...don't bend or crack it, and resist the temptation to cut the tube off. The tank WILL come out. And it helps if the tank is almost empty.

As far as the exhaust, you shouldn't have to cut it either. Once you disconnect all the suspension components, unbolt the exhaust at the cat and at the hangars and it'll come out as one unit out the right side of the car. HTHs and good luck.
