Steering column fix

I am trying to tighten down the bolts so my column wont wobble anymore. How do you disconnect the turn signal wire so you can get the switch out? Please help, my column is in pieces.

Its been a while, but if I remember right the wire goes down the column to a long inline connector. There is at least one clip on the connector, if its the one I am thinking of it has 2 and they are real fun to deal with.

Have you checked the archives? Its much more than I would even try to write right now, but I think this is where you are at:

I assume this is a tilt column. There are pins on each side of the column, they have a threaded hole in the center. You have to get those out to get to all of the 4 bolts you need to tighten. There are various ways like threading a bolt in there and pulling that out, I borrowed a tool from a friend that is specifically for those pins.

I only found one halfway decent thread on it... Someone needs to write a tech article on this... https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000420.html

There are 4 bolts though not 3, just the 4th one is a real PITA to get to. I left mine, tightened 3 of them. Its still ok. I would highly recommend using loctite on the bolts.

When I fixed mine, I didn't want to mess with the tilt pins, and I was able to reach the two bolts you can see with a long 1/4" extension and a torx socket. Then I used an antenna like telescoping magnet to pull the two bolts out of the holes. I put loctite on them(make absolutely sure you do this, or they'll be loose again in no time), then reinstall them and tighten them firmly, don't go gorilla tight, or you'll end up stripping them. My other two bolts are probably still loose, but my column is as firm as can be just from loctiting and tightening the two that I could get to. Haven't had a problem with it since.
