Removal of molded leather shift handle ****?
I'm trying to remove the console plate that houses the ashtray, gear indicator etc. Can't get the **** off. It's not the one with the clip in the back to take out, it's the imitation leather wrapped **** and I have the button off and can't find anything else to detach. Does anyone know how to remove this? Thanks in advance.

Are you sure? Look again. I had to look twice before finding the clip on mine, they hid it fairly well. I have the same "leather" wrapped ****, and it's held on by a U clip in the front (towards the radio). Pry it out w/ screwdriver. I haven't seen any other way.
If it's not the case, I don't know. If it's round, try unscrewing it?

Another good way to get them off if you do happen to find a clip holding it is to use a hook shaped pick. I have one in my set of cornwell picks, and it worked like a charm. A really thin screwdriver and a little patience prevails as well. P.S. If you don't find a clip anywhere, email this guy and ask him. He's tore apart enough of them to know. His name is Shawn, and his email addy is smiller@bmt.net.

If it's anything like the one in my car, it has a snap-ring under the button, around the shaft of the shifter. I dunno on the newer one, unless they have the "U-shaped" clip.
Good luck!
