Question about lifters (pics inside)

I purchased a new cam and lifter set from Crane Cams, I was looking over the new lifters and noticed that one of them had an imperfection on it. Was just wondering if this might be bad? Should I get another new one? Do they just sell individual ones?

I haven't installed them yet cuz they are soaking in oil right now

Personally I would send it back since any imperfection is a weak spot. I've seen lifters let go before and it usually leads to a hefty machine shop bill to have the block flushed and rebuilt and then buy a new cam as well. In fact we had a lunati soild lifter that had the bottom 1/4" literally sheared off. Sent back the remains we could find to Summit and after they looked it all over, replaced the cam lifter for free, and gave a 10% discount for all engine rebuild parts plus free shipping for those engine parts.
That's just my opinion, but with a flaw that obvious and it's usually a valetrain compnent that fails in a motor, I'd just have them replace it. A extra week waiting now, is better than 3 weeks down later plus with added expense.

I also would reject the whole set and send them back for
a replacement set.

No excuse for that kind of crappy quality control.

I'd send 'em back, why risk scoring the bores?

Thanks guys, thats what I was thinking. I bought the set from summint but its been over 90 days, I guess I will call them and let them know the situation. I was also disapointed with the quality control.. oh well guess its best I caught it now.

yep i'd send them back and not run a set from the same maker, even if only a few people actually make lifters.
