oil pressure gauge

I have an 86 Z-28, the other day when I started it the oil pressure gauge went over to 'max' above 60 and stuck there. Is there an oil sending unit, or is this computer controled. Any info would be handy! Thank guys!

I have a 1990 Formula 350 thats i've had for a few weeks now, and it pegs at 60 psi at idle, and while im driving drops to just under 30, then pegs again at idle. Its probably just a bad sender.
