should my car have a fan shroud?

From the factory it was a 1998 IROC Z28 305 cu in, 700r4, dual cooling fans.

98? how about 88?

Anyway, the shroud is built into the fan housing if there is one. And I wouldnt really call it a shroud either, its tiny, more of a finger protector than a shroud.

I have two fans. Around the outside of each fan is a one inch piece of the same material as the fan blades themselves. I would hardly call this a shroud - i agree more like a finger protector - but i think its main purpose is for stability of the fan blades.

I wanted to know is there another piece that is supposed to encompass the fans extending back from the rad?

there isn't any need for anything extending back from the radiator, or fans
