Where can i go to find what type of engine?

Hi,

i just bought an 87 T/A w/ a 350 carb'd SBC. I got the engine code from it (V0617PJC). I know the first letter is the assembly plant, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th numbers are the date and i know the 6th number is supposed to be the type (Car or Truck)(C or T) but mine is neither C or T. Where can i find this out? Also what does the JC mean? Thanks

look up your RPO's in your glove box most likely, using the RPO decoder.

That number only tells you when, where, and what shift workers cast the block.

You need the actual casting number to know what size engine it is.

www.Mortec.com will help you a lot.

The last three digits of the stamped code "PJC" tell the story.
Go to http://www.chevymania.com/partsid/ and click on 'suffix codes' - small block, then use the first drop-down menu to find that code, and hit 'GO'. That'll tell you the year, displacement, what is was originally installed in, the stock hp rating, induction type, and RPO code.

Look on the back of the engine, where the tranny bellhousing bolts onto the block, drivers side. There is a number there, and thats the number you want. If its a non-original 350, then the last 3 digits are probably "010". It could be something else though.

If its not 010, post the last 3 digits here and someone will tell you what you have.
