backfires and pops in exhaust

First off i am new to posting on this site. I have been here and read and learned alot on this site. By far one of the best i have ever seen. I do not have a 3rd gen car. I have an 89 chevy pickup with a 350 tbi. I find this site more helpful than the truck sites. Well know for my question. I recently did alot of work to mt truck. I put headers a highflo cat and a super 40 flow. On the intake side i put the edelbrock tbi intake. I also have a stage 2 jet chip. I put new plugs ac delcos and have an accel cap rotor and msd blaster ignition coil. Everything was running fine for about a week then we got some snow. The snow is gone but the truck backfires and pops if i dont warm it up for about 15 to 20 minutes first. I also noticed the idle is a little rougher than normal. Any help will be appreciated

would that be the cause even though it goes away once the truck is warmed up. I also thought i maught have already berned out a plug or two.

Check that the headers are solidly sealed onto the head. If the gasket leaks there then you will get pops and bangs. I had a similarly sounding problem, and my exhaust manifold gasket was broken. It was either damaged when it was installed, or when I hit the exhaust off the ground....

Just a thought,

Si. :lala:

my headers are on tight. I was thinking maybe the open water passage in the back of the intake may have something to do with it. When i took the original intake off the back water passages were capped off. I called around to scoggin dickey and they said that the new intake gaskets would work fine to just leave that water passage open. they had no real reason why gm decided to block those off. could it be that the stage 2 chip makes the truck take longer to warm up. run richer.. i know it recommends 91 octane only but gas prices are a little high for me to get the best..what do you all think
