170 is the problem, you can find a 160 or 180 no problem.

I think 170 is too low, just save some bucks and get a 180.

isnt there a GM part # for a 170* stat? i know there is.
170 is the best, if you want your car to run at 170 get the stat and a hypertech 176* fan switch.

I bought my 170 degree stat from Pep Boys. It wasn't for a L98 though and the OD was slightly bigger.

I just attacked it with my Makita grinder and it dropped right in.

I used the TPIS trick of drilling four holes in it since I'd blocked the bypass in the block.

Works like a charm and is really inexpensive too; about $4.00

Theres a thermostat for a nissan that is the chevy stat, 170 temp, and has something attached to the bottom of the stat. You could cut that part off and use it. I dont remember what it fit, but I am thinking early 90's 240SX.
Just use a 180. I am thinking 160 is too cold, dont get a good burn in the combustion chamber.
