Engine Assembly

How hard is it too assemble an engine? Im considering buy a 355 with a turbo 350 tranny for $200. The engine is dipped and honed, with a brand new crank ready to be put back together. I have never tackled something this big before and I cant afford to pay a shop to assemble.

What Id like to do is build a strong bottom end and then replace the cam, intake and heads later. Suggestions? Help? Step by step articles?

Thanks

The best way to start is by getting some books like the Haynes Chevrolet Engine Overhaul Manual, Ligenfelter's book, etc. Just do a search on www.bn.com for chevrolet engines and round up 5-10 books about it from stock rebuild to hopping them up, so you get different perspectives. That's all I know to tell you. Hope this helps.

it's not hard, but there are a few things to watch out for. as you were told buy some books, ask your friends and see if you can find someone to help you along. another big thing is making sure the parts were marked and you understand what, where, and how everything fits back together. good luck
