Help, busted tranny mount

Well I am pretty sure my tranny mount is shot on my 700R4, it has the symptoms. IF it is, is replacing it something I can do in the driveway? I mean is it just a questions of supporting the trans with a jack and unbolting the thing?? Thanks.

You got it. Jack the trans with a piece of wood placed across the fluid pan. Place the wood so it goes from "left to right" not "front to back". You don't need to raise it much, either.

Remember your steel bolts are going into an aluminum trans- don't overtighten them or you'll strip the aluminum. I think torque spec for the mount-to-trans is 30 ft/lbs- Can someone please check me on that?

You can also search for info on this in the "Transmissions & Drivetrain" message board.

Take ede's advice, I went through 2 mounts already, one was the stock one, the other was a Corvette one.

I agree. The Energy suspension mount is awesome. I kept going through mounts until I got that. My engine mounts were worn too though and it was putting more stress on the trans mount.

I guess I will also say energy-suspension mount is the best....I have it on mine and I havent had a problem. Even if you break it there is a safety feature that will not let your transmission go crazy. I remember when my mount went the cat conv. would hit the floorboards! remember this, trans fluid is not kind to rubber it will wear it.
