timing marker missing / failed visual emissions

Axle/Gears: 3.42 posi
timing marker missing / failed visual emissions

welp, failed emissions. all the numbers were ok, but visual failed due to "missing timing marker".

im not sure where to start on this one, ive never set the timing before even. prob cause i couldnt, lol...

is this a piece i could get from the boneyard? tho v8 is usually tough to find there...

could i put it on myself?

help?

They failed you because of that!!!!!! What has our society come to. Anyways, the stock tab is only spot welded on and can fall off. it is on your timing cover and is hard to see. You have to look over and down over your water pump to see it. Make sure it is there. That is not just an easy 5 minute fix.

awww crap welded! anyone have a pic so i know what to look for. thnx.

where would i get a new one? i mean, do the dealer even sell it if its a weld on piece? or is it a generic piece i can get from pep boys.

Perhaps Herr Inspektor didn't know where to look for it.

You have to look straight down between the water pump legs. If he was looking for it at 2 o'clock where Chevy used to put it, he won't see anything.

You'll have to get a stock timing cover with the thing welded on, no real way around it.

I used to get alot of stuff like that at Ecology Auto Parts in Oceanside, right across the highway from the Oceanside Airport.
