Tranny went CLUNK!
Ok, I was out wasting gas tonight to empty the tank and get ready to for emissions testing tomorrow (tank has to be 1/4 full when I add the alcohol), so I was just out cruzing tonight, nothing special.
I was at a redlight (all by myself), and gunned it at green just for kicks and giggles (and to waste gas). When I hit 2n'd gear, I felt (and heard) a big "CLUNK" sound, felt like it was in the transmission area (felt it through the shifter). Auto tranny, 700R4.
This scared the MESS out of me, so I pulled off the access road and into a parking lot to see if I had anything dangling down from the bottom, or to see if I had a flat tire. Didn't see anything, so I figured I just hooked real hard or something.
I get to the next light, and give it 1/4 throttle, hit 2n'd just like normal. Next light, I give it 1/2 throttle, and CLUNK, when I 2n'd gear again. Now I'm really freaked out.
What the heck did I break!? Please tell me it's something simple, and something that will not cost alot to fix. I dont' have any money after all the damn emissions work on my car.
Is my car safe to drive?
Sorry if this might be in the wrong place, I'm not sure if this is my transmission, drive line, or what. so I posted it here in the general section.

ok, I did a bit of searching here on the message boards, and I think that it might be my transmission mount (should have searched before I posted, sorry, I guess I was still a bit freaked out!)
So, if that is the case, is my car safe to drive for a few days till I can find a way to replace it, if I drive it easy? or is there a very real danger in damage to other components?
I did not try giving it much throttle off the line after the initial clunk, thats another symptom of a bad tranny mount, a clunk off the line with alot of throttle? correct?

It definitely sounds like the tranny mount. I would not take the chance in driving it too much. I would think it could damage the tranny because the driveshaft could damage the rear seal. The torque converter could get damaged or the motor could get damaged if the tranny is shifting too much.

hm... sounds like after I go through emissions tomorrow morning (wait, thats only in a few hours!) then I'd better have a look at getting someone over here to help me change this thing out.
thanks for the reply!

all you need is a jack and a ratchet to change the tranny mount.. a board to put across the trans pan to put the jack under might also be helpful.. and yeah its like a 15 min job if you include jackin the car up...
