Harmonic Balancer OD?

Ok, ive searched the boards for about the last hour and havent found the exact answer to my question. I have found out that my Harmonic Balancer is slipping and rubbing against my timing chain cover, and has started a small oil leak. So, Im picking up a 2 piece timing chain cover and a Harmonic Balancer. Im buying the Summit Brand balancer, since im on a budget it, and 5,000 RPMS doesnt justify the use of a fluidamper.

My question is, what size do i need? I have a 305 TPI car. Is it the 6 3/4" or the 8"?

why don't you measure the one you have and you'll know 100% for sure what you have and need. doesn't really make much sense that the balancer could rub a hole in the cover and start a leak. the hub or the part the fits into the cover is the same size on all dampners and can only fit onto the crank so far.

oh...that's really a common problem. the outer ring separates from the inner ring and works its way into the timing cover. it's only held together by a rubber isolator ring...and when it separates, it just slowly slides in toward the engine. that happened to my car..just replace it.

Make a guageing tool from scrape wood and slide under
the car and try it over the balancer. if it doesn't fit
you have the larger balancer.

Although a great idea, that's too much work. Cutting out a notch in cardboard is much easier.
